God is smart

1 Peter 3:1-7

Have you read it? If your answer is no, then I highly recommend to stop reading my ramblings, and read what Peter has to say. One problem that Christians have with this particular bit of scripture are the words that are used, words like weaker and submissive. So instead of reading on, and realizing what God is actually saying, we (Christians) use what Pastor Livingston entitles, "the cut and paste" method. We read what we like, and what makes sense, and apply those things to our lives. The rest...is gone. Which is very sad, because if we could learn to read, understand and APPLY the parts that we "cut", our lives and our walk with the Lord would be unbelievably complete. The theme of the first 7 verses of the 1 Peter 3, is dealing with husbands and wives. And regardless if you're married, dating, or single, these verses are something to read and remember.

3:1-2-- Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives

Does it say submissive? Yes, it does. And it does not mean cowering before him, it means that God has a plan and "we" will walk in it together.

3: 3-4--Our beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

God is our peace and He is our refuge. This knowledge allows us to have a quiet spirit. That simple act is pleasing to God. That is something that I know I can definitely stand to work on.

3: 5-6--For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

(self explanatory)

3:7--Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

I am unbelievably blessed to be married to an amazing man of God who desires for me to be better in order to glorify God. Amazing. We have our struggles, arguments, and not so great days, but in the end, we are husband AND wife. Whatever he walks through, I walk through. And we can not truly love each other how we should without first loving the Lord. And last Saturday night, we did not show each other the love that the other deserved. But Sunday morning, God showed us what He intended for us and every married couple through these verses. Amazing.
