I Got Tagged!

Sweet, talented Laura from Twirl tagged me to do this fun little game where y'all get to learn a bunch of things about me that you may otherwise never know.

Brace yourself.

But first, the rules!

1. You must post these rules.
2. Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
4. You have to choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post.
5. Go to their page and tell them you have linked him or her.

1. What are you wearing right now?
It's Monday, it's raining and I have a stupid sinus headache. All of those things mean one thing...t-shirt, a hoodie and yoga pants. I guess that's technically 3 things, but you get the idea.

2. If you found $100 in your pocket what would you buy today?
I would reeeeaaallyyy love some new running clothes. Signing up for this 1/2 marathon has not helped our bank account

3. If your parting gift from the Zoo was an animal of your choice, which one would you take home with you?
Ideally, I would love to have a penguin. But seeing as how we don't live in an igloo, they may not be too feasible.  So realistically (because this is sure to happen) I'd have to go with a monkey. A little one, like Ross had in Friends.

4. Would you rather have a perpetual scab on the tip of your nose or perpetual eye goop?
Eh...this question. I do not like it. Obviously, neither of these are desirable. I think I'll have to go with a scab on my nose because that at least may be able to camouflaged.

5. What is the greatest lesson you learned from your mother?
To look people in the eye when you speak to them and to always say please and thank you. Come to find out those things really do matter!

6. If you were given a free Super Bowl ad what would you advertise?
This is a tough one, but honestly the first thing that came to mind was for an organization that does pet rescues/adoptions. I am a big supporter for rescuing/adopting over anything else when it comes to getting a dog or cat. Everyone and everything is entitled to a second chance.

7. What is your favorite photograph?
If you ask anyone that knows me, they will tell you that I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to taking pictures or having them taken. With that said, it would be almost impossible for me to pick my all time favorite photo, but this is hands down at the top of the list!

For our 3 year anniversary, we went to Chicago and my husband (who has been a lifelong Cubs fan) finally got to to see a game. Getting to share that with him was such a blessing! And they won!

8. If you could change your name, what name would you choose?
I really like my name and that fact that it isn't common, so I don't think I would change my name. Growing up though, I really liked the name Cassidy and would have loved my parents if they would've let me change it.

9. What is the most best gift you ever received?
I have a 3 things that I would place in this category:
1. My engagement ring
2. The Bible that my grandpa had with him during the war
3. My great-grandma's china

All of these things have so much meaning and emotion attached to them. They are all irreplaceable.

10. What one clothing item or accessory do you wish you could pull off?
Anything mustard colored! It's just not in my color pallet, but I think it's a great color on those that can pull it off.

11. If you had to decide which movie you would teleport into (because that is naturally how this would be possible), and live out for the rest of your life, which movie would you choose?
Swiss Family Robinson circa 1960. My reason? Their house. Even as a kid, I realized just how awesome this thing was!
I remember falling in love with this house when I watched this movie many years ago and I still think about it! I could do without the dangerous stuff though!

Okay! My turn for 11 questions...

1. What is the one item you have to have in your fridge/pantry?
2. Is there a song that evokes an emotion/memory from you no matter what? (can be a happy, nostalgic, etc)
3. What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment to date? Could be personal or professional.
4. Would you rather go the rest of your life without ever watching your favorite show/movie or without reading your favorite book?
5. Skydiving or bungee jumping?
6. Where is the one place you want to go before you die?
7. If you had a book written about you and your life, what would you want the title to be?
8. What would you want your 15 minutes of fame to be for?
9. Is there a hobby or activity you did when you were younger that you've given up, but wish could start again?
10. What would be the hardest food to give up forever? (Mexican, Italian, cake, etc.)
11. If you could be amazing at one thing, what would you want it to be?

And I'm tagging...
Meg from a boy, a girl and a pug
Daisy from Daisy Girl
Brooke from Bright Wishes
Nicole from Nicole Michelle: My Life. My Blog.
Nina from peace. love & good food.
Ashley from heart of my heart
Jennifer from Just a Daddy's Girl Living the Dream
Kristyn from read JULY
Kelly from A Little Southern Charm
Krista from The Not So Desperate Chef Wife
Hannah from cherry bees

Don't feel like you have to do this, but I assure you, it is fun!

How Pinteresting {Words Edition}

I have always been fascinated by words. Their meaning, their weight and everything in between. When AOL Instant Messenger was king, I scoured the internet for the best quotes and lyrics that could articulate whatever I was going through or feeling at that moment. Sometimes someone elses words can explain you better than you ever could.

Words whether written, spoken or sung have a way of reaching us in ways that are inexplicable. I think there are times that we fail to realize how much weight words carry and how hard they are to shoulder. Words can be a dangerous weapon or a beautiful representation of human nature.

So use your words as a gift to others. Don't be the reason other people feel sad or belittled.

Be kind.

Be purposeful.

Be thoughtful.

Happy Long Weekend Y'all!

All together, take a deeeeep breath and savor this weekend. The first full work week since Christmas has come and gone and our reward is a 3 day weekend.

No complaints here. I am a big supporter of short work weeks because 40 hours a week is just not normal. I told a friend that life sometimes gets in the way of living. I mean, really, whoever thought that we should work 40 hours a week for life obviously didn't have to do it themselves!

I digress.

I will enjoy the extra day to run, clean, do a little shopping and enjoy my husband and our sweet furbabies. We have no big plans, which are my favorite kind. I had every intention of getting up and running this morning, but the couch had a pretty strong argument and it won. Good thing I was given an extra day this weekend. I will take full advantage and not beat myself up for slacking this morning. I enjoyed my book, made some delicious breakfast and got some cleaning taken care of...not all was lost!

So with this random and pointless post, I hope that y'all have a fantastic weekend!

12 Goals & 1 To Grow On

I tend not to make resolutions because a) I will inevitably not fulfill them and b) anything dealing with self improvement is an ongoing thing and will more than likely not be accomplished within 365 (give or take).

Therefore, I will make a list of goals of things that I hope to do or want to go before we say goodbye to 2012. And if these past years have taught me anything, it's that the years are going by faster than ever so I cannot be lazy about !

(these are in no particular order)

1. Run and finish a half marathon (considering I am signed up for one, this should happen)
2. Go to the zoo
3. Create and stick to a household budget
4. Learn the guitar (forget the fact that I bought it like 6 months ago)
5. Visit my grandparents/great-grandpa for no reason at all (aka not just at holidays)
6. Be more intentional with my college basketball blog
7. Find and stick to a Bible study
8. Go to the beach (we sadly didn't make it there once during 2011)
9. Re-do our bathroom
10. Make a photobook of our trip to Chicago
11. Create a positive and lasting impact in someone's life
12. Read at least 3 books that are considered "classics"

and one to grow on...

13. Learn something new (guitar not included)

Mind you, these are merely things that I hope do or places I hope to go to. 2012 is not limited to or by the 13 things listed above. I am learning that living requires being intentional and I refuse to let laziness or being comfortable to hold me back this year. I hope to embrace everything that comes our way this year; good or bad, hard or easy...it's called life and bumps are part of the road. I realize these are not deep nor impressive goals, but they are mine, and that's enough for me.

p.s. There is officially less than 2 months until the Disney Princesses 1/2 Marathon! Crazy!

A Look Back

One great thing about having a blog is the chance to document life throughout the year. It's like an ongoing scrapbook, which is the best kind for me because I do not possess a creative bone in my entire body. I have no doubt that my husband wonders why in the world I insist on taking so many pictures of everything...this is why! I like to look back and visual recaps are the best.

started the year off by celebrating a Tar Heels win!

got a ton of snow and enjoyed some snow days!
we bought some new furniture and I finally felt like an adult

2 wonderful friends said "I do"

celebrated Brittany's birthday in Boone!

3 year anniversary trip to Chicago

and roasted some marshmallows while we were there

Christmas was a month long celebration of course

Though to some it may not seem as though 2011 held excitement or may even seem boring.

I assure you, it was not. We had a wonderful year and I'm so excited for the many things 2012 will hold for us!

Happy New Year everyone! Make the most of it :)
